New MTV Interview with Saoirse Ronan

MTV will debut the new Host trailer online tomorrow morning, but for now, check out their latest interview with star Saoirse Ronan. When MTV's Josh Horowitz last spoke with Ronan at TIFF, she was on her way to see a cut of the film. In the latest interview, the pair discuss the cut, working with William Hurt, and upcoming projects.

MTV News: Saoirse, when I last saw you in Toronto you were about to see an early cut of "The Host" for the first time. Are you happy with what you saw?

Saoirse Ronan: I am. It's great to just see it all put together and see how it looks and how certain scenes turning out. There are some nice moments in there. I loved working with everyone on it but I really loved working with William Hurt just because he was a great leader real for all of us. He raised questions that some of us might not have if he wasn't there so it was lovely to see the scenes that we did together.

MTV: Is the structure of the film still similar to the book? Are the flashbacks still intact?

Ronan: In the cut I saw there were still quite a few flashbacks which is good because it gives you a chance to see the relationship between Melanie and Jared.

Movie Tie-In Cover Revealed

Update: Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble have included a new cover for the tie-in edition of the novel. It is possible that both will be released, with one as the mass market version and the other as a standard paperback.

Along with The Host: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion, fans will also be treated to a movie tie-in edition of the novel on January 8, 2013.

"In the dark, every noise sounded like an attack."

Wanderer falls into step with Jeb as they continue on the tour of the caves. Doc and Ian fall in step behind them, and Jamie finds himself in the middle. Though there are sights to see in the cave, from the waist-high corn to the rec room, Wanderer finds her attention drawn to the three people behind her. To her surprise, the two men are well behaved, but in the darkness of the caves, the slightest noise, even innocent chatter, puts her on edge. The tour continues peacefully until Jeb announces their location, the medical area. Wanderer and Melanie are both in shock that they were lured so easily to this place and Doc seems to share their sentiments. Jamie is quick to reassure Wanderer that they do not mean to harm her, though Ian points out that were that their purpose, it would have been a pretty good plan. Jeb continues on about the medicine, or in their case, the lack of medicine since the Souls destroyed human medication. Doc inquires about "alien medicine," but since Wanderer is not a Healer, she does not know how they work, only that they do. 

Upon reentering the garden, Jeb ends the tour, sending Ian and Doc off to "do something useful." Jeb has a job for Jamie and the two follow as Jeb makes his way to the sleeping quarters. Stopping in front of the apartment with the green screen, Wanderer moves inside while Jeb sets Jamie up for guard duty. Before heading off, Jeb hands Jamie the rifle, sending Wanderer into a fit. In the end, it is Jeb's house and he'll do what he wants. When Jamie and Wanderer are alone, he orders her into the room before stationing himself outside the entry. He stands for a few moments before pacing, but after a few turns, Jamie sits down by the room's entrance. After a few hours, Jamie asks Wanderer about the planet she was on before coming to Earth. 

"I told him about the See Wees' waterlogged planet. I told him about the two suns, the elliptical orbit, the gray waters, the unmoving permanence of roots, the stunning vistas of a thousand eyes, the endless conversations of a million soundless voices that all could hear."

Saoirse Ronan "Loved the Concept" of 'The Host'

HitFix sat down with Saoirse Ronan during the Toranto International Film Festival to discuss Byzantium, How I Live Now, and The Host.

As someone who hasn't really jumped into the studio movie world, what made you go to do something like 'The Host'? 

I loved the concept.  I think it's an amazing concept and I really liked the book and just the idea of creatures coming onto our planet and trying to perfect our race and our world and get rid of any negativity in any way, which of course would never work really because suddenly you're taking away human nature and human spirit and all these different things.  But it raises a lot of questions like that and that was really, really interesting to me.  Then they said that they [brought on] Andrew Niccol to do it, who has made brilliant films in the past that have conceptually been mind-blowing and beautiful.  So, he was perfect for it and I mean the main producer on it, Nick Wechsler, was fantastic.  He brought everyone together and Stephanie and everything.  So, there were a lot of things there that really attracted me to it.

Saoirse Ronan Talks 'The Host' at TIFF

Saoirse Ronan sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz at the Toronto International Film Festival and he managed to squeeze a few details from the star. Though Ronan is not a fan of watching herself on screen, she is looking forward to the scenes between her and William Hurt (Uncle Jeb), which she says are "dramatic" and have "a lot of heart."

Ronan also revealed that she would be seeing a cut of the movie later that day and though he tried, Horowitz could not score a seat as her plus one.
